So are you looking for a good Super Mario Bros?!
clone for your computer? Do you want to fight King Bowser Koopa in 2D, without emulation of the old consoles? Or do you like extreme challenges in a platformer game? Then this game is too good for you. Mario Forever v3.51 is the your best choice if you want a good Mario clone, filled to the brim with secrets. Also, a fun mini-game, Mario Minix, is included in this game too. And everything is the hard work of Buziol Games Software. Good job!
The Mario Forever normal game.
The story is simple: Bowser's armies destroy the Mushroom Kingdom and kidnap the Princess, it's up to Mario to save her. Like always. :D The levels are impressive... I said IMPRESSIVE? They are all the best levels i've ever seen in a Mario platform game. Buziol has a lot of talent! There are 32 normal levels in eight worlds, with the old ranch-style outdoors, underground, underwater levels and castles filled with hot lava. Also there are lots of fairly hard challenges you must complete, like getting out of a pipe maze, riding the cloud, or getting chased by the rising lava. The game has the original enemies; goombas and angry turtles are trying to kill you. So Mario can kill the enemies using his weight, fireballs or beetroots. In some places you must use them. Mario has a lot of powerups in this game, like the original mushroom, fire flower, star and the Buziol-made giant beetroot and green-jumping lui. You can buy the mushroom or the flower at the beginning of the game for your lives. Also there is the scoring system which is similar to the original. Also if you want some more lives, look for the green mushrooms or use the turtle shell kick technique against the enemies. At the end of each world, you must face King Bowser Koopa. Only there's one world which doesn't have Bowser... find it out. :) The game saves automatically when you complete a world.
What are those hardcore worlds that everyone talks about?
The hardcore worlds are secret worlds which contain the hardest platforming challenges in ever made into any game. These are only eight levels, but these levels can be REALLY frustrating. They are EXTREMELY HARD. The challenges are extreme, and I'm not gonna talking about them. The location of their hidden entrance is well hidden, but I give you a little hint: the left floating pipe is upside down. Or you can download the video from the Extras section how to enter this hidden pipe. Also there are more stuff to find in this game...
Mario Minix
From the entrance, go left to find this tube. In Mario Minix, you have to kill the enemies using your foot or the turtle shell. You will get combos if you use the turtle shell to kill the enemies, and combos give you more score of course. But you can get only ONE hit by the enemies. The second hit will kill you. From the summary screen you can send your score to the Minix highscore table on www.buziol.pl.
Looking
The game's most graphics were taken from the Super Mario Bros. section from Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES. These ain't looking like that 3D rendered stuff or something, but these is a lot better than the gfx of the Super Mario Bros. for the NES :). A part of musics was originally from Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island (SNES both); and every music was taken from public domain. The sound fx is taken from other Mario games.
Controls
The default controls are:
Up: Used only when you enter an upside down pipe.
Down: Duck, enter a normal tube
left: Move left
right: Move right
Z: jump, swim upward
X: run, shoot a fireball/beetroot (required to use in 1-4).
You can freely change the controls in the Options menu. Also you can use your joypad to play too.
What are the other stuff that I can change in the Options menu?
You can turn off/on here the musics, visual effects, and xscroll (Urbagility2-style scroll) too. Also here is the credits, you should look at it.
Requirements
Works with: at least 64 MB RAM, soundcard, videocard with 16MB video RAM, hard disk with 20MB free space, DirectX7 or better, Internet Explorer, and maybe internet connection. Not really big thing... For Linux use Wine. :) It runs perfectly on Pentium II with 450MHz (with 256 MB RAM).
Is it freeware or shareware?
Mario Forever is (was and will be) freeware. But you must install the Mario Forever Toolbar into the Internet Explorer to install Mario Forever. Use it three times to make it able to disappear. Using it will support the hard work of Buziol, but some people think the toolbar is spyware (it isn't actually). So the BGS has decided to remove this requirement to install the game in the upcoming version, in v4.0.
What will be in the next version? Two things are sure: As I said, the toolbar install will be optional in the next version, and a level creator will be included in v4.0.
Overall
I recommend this awesome game to everyone who is a hardcore Mario fan, or just a beginner in this whole Mario world. I recommend this game to those who like extreme challenges, or well hidden secrets. I recommend this to those who played Super Mario game(s) and to those who didn't. And I recommend this game to those who like downloading 14MB. It could be slow on dial-up, but goes okay on other connections. :D I think this is the best game ever made by Buziol Games Software. They made a real Mario game for the PC, and this ain't just a clone. It's a lot more. B)
Ok, I hope you like it.
